Interventional Cardiologist
Originally from Belgium, Dr. Bart Denys joined Cardiovascular Institute of the South as the medical director in Thibodaux in 1994.
He graduated summa cum laude from Leuven Medical School in Belgium in 1982 with postgraduate certification and high honors in sports medicine. Following residencies in internal medicine and cardiology at Leuven University Hospital, where he also served as a cardiologist, Dr. Denys completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Denys was appointed assistant professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, becoming both associate professor of medicine and director of interventional cardiology research before joining the CIS physician team.
Dr. Denys is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and interventional cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions and the American Society of Angiology. Dr. Denys is a board certified medical acupuncturist and a fellow of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. He is also a medical director of pharmaceutical research, being considered one of the leading physicians in this field. He has written numerous articles and abstracts that have been published in medical journals, and he has presented on many medical topics both nationally and internationally.
