Interventional Cardiologist
In 2007, Dr. Thompson joined the CIS team as an interventional cardiologist in Zachary. In addition to providing general cardiovascular disease care, he has a special interest in syncope and cardiac electrophysiology.
Dr. Charles Thompson received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. After working 15 years in the medical field as a paramedic in south Louisiana, he completed his medical education at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.
He began his postgraduate medical training in internal medicine at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He then completed a cardiovascular disease fellowship at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, where he was also invited to serve for an additional year as chief cardiovascular fellow/interventional fellow.
Dr. Thompson is board certified in cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular computed tomography. In 1990, he was awarded the MBB Golden Hour Award, an international award of excellence for an aeromedical crew. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, and Louisiana State Medical Society. He is a fellow in the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention. He is an invited member of the International Andreas Gruentzig Society, which meets to discuss the current state of cardiovascular intervention and then publishes recommendations for the direction of research in the field. He also holds positions in local hospitals and national organization governing committees.
He and his wife, Donna, reside in Louisiana. They have six children and four grandchildren. His leisure time is spent traveling with family, woodworking, and refurbishing antique wood and metalworking machines.
