Sclerotherapy Treatment

Varicose veins and spider veins can affect multiple areas of the body. These red, blue, or purple veins may develop close to the surface of the skin or appear swollen and bulging. Sclerotherapy can be used in multiple treatment areas including:

• The legs
• The feet and ankles
• And more

Especially large veins may require up to four sessions of injections to diminish in appearance. Small varicose or spider veins may fade in as little as three weeks, while larger veins take as many as four to six months to reach optimal results.

Following your procedure, you may experience some discomfort, swelling, or discoloration of the injection site, but these symptoms should subside within a few days of the appointment. If you experience any lasting pain from your treatment, consult with your specialists as soon as possible.

Sclerotherapy is commonly performed on male and female patients between the ages of 30 and 60 years old. Those who are interested in diminishing spider veins for cosmetic purposes are valid candidates for the treatment. And, patients with painful, itching, or bulging varicose veins should also consult with their physician about sclerotherapy. 

Tell your doctor if you have recently given birth or are currently pregnant or breastfeeding as these patients are not prime candidates for sclerotherapy.
